What is a CEICI?
A Council-certified Environmental Infection Control Investigator (CEICI) helps prevent infection control problems in the built environment. A CEICI advises building owners during demolition, remodeling, repair and renovation projects. A CEICI can help identify construction practices which might contribute to the spread of infection. A CEICI can help develop an infection control risk assessment (ICRA) and assemble a project management team.
A CEICI also investigates existing infection control issues. He or she can locate the source of a problem and recommend steps to correct it.
A CEICI has verified knowledge of disciplines related to environmental infection control. The CEICI examination covers the most respected texts in the field. Those who pass the exam must understand the scientific principles governing infection control. They must be familiar with current practices and standards affecting consultants and investigators. They must know how to produce a risk assessment (ICRA). They must be able to assemble a project management team. They must know how to conduct an investigation and report their findings.
Each CEICI has demonstrated at least two (2) years experience in infection control consulting in one or more of the following settings:

Clinics and urgent care centers

Offices and commercial buildings

Industrial structures

Government facilities

Schools and public buildings
To earn the Council-certified Environmental Infection Control Investigator designation, a candidate must:

Demonstrate at least two (2) years of verifiable field experience in infection control consulting

Pass a rigorous examination based on broad industry knowledge rather than a course curriculum

Earn the unanimous approval of the CEICI certification board

Re-certify every two years

Participate in 20 hours of professional development activities each year

Maintain the highest ethical standards
The CEICI certification is accredited by the Council for Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB), a nationally recognized independent accreditation body. ACAC certifications are the ONLY designations in the indoor air quality field to earn CESB accreditation.
